Mr. Kyung Kook KANG is a partner at DR & AJU LLC. His practice is primarily focused on Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Restructuring, Insolvency & Restructuring, Corporate, Energy & Infrastructure, and International.
Mr. Kang has worked in M&A since the beginning of his career, and has carried out various M&A and corporate restructuring work for both domestic and foreign companies, such as the merger between Housing Bank and Kookmin Bank, Doosan Group's acquisition of Korea Heavy Industries & Construction, the sale of Dongyang Group's Tongyang Card business in installments to Lotte Group, AK Capital's acquisition of Hanbo Steel, Pantech & Quritel's acquisition of SK Teletech, the transition and restructuring of Nongshim Group to a holding company system, Transition and restructuring of Pacific Group into a holding company system, participation in LS Nikko Copper Smelting's stake in Electronic Recyclers International (USA, California Corporation), the sale of the Incheon Nonhyeon Group Energy Project by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Global Steel Dust's investment in Steel Dust Recycling Plant in Korea, restructuring work of Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd., retructuring of Daesung Group, RIO Fund's Daeyu Group (Daeyu A Tech/Daeyu Winia) CB and old stock acquisition investment, KN Fund's acquisition of Handysoft Co., Ltd., the sale of RIO Fund's shares in Signet EV Co., Ltd. and new shares to SK Group, the acquisition of Hyundai Heavy Industries Power System Co., Ltd. by H Asset Management, and the aquisition of AJ Capital Partners Co., Ltd. by RIO Fund.
In addition, he received his LLM at Georgetown University Law Center and worked as a foreign lawyer at Washington D.C. firm Holland & Knight LLP, obtaining practical experience in global M&A practice through his joint work with U.S. attorneys concerning the M&A of Korean companies by American companies. He has also partnered with relevant government departments for corporate advisory work needed in public sector projects, such as the privatization of the Korea Gas Corporation and other gas introduction businesses, radioactive waste disposal site selection, and expansion of energy-related public enterprises.
He currently continues to advise on M&A matters for domestic and foreign companies and on corporate restructuring such as shifting to a holding company structure, and provides legal advisory on all aspects of general corporate activity. In addition, he was selected as a test author for the General Civil Disputes (Corporate Law) section of the 4th Korean bar exam, and served as a broadcast evaluation committee member of the Korea Communications Commission and as a committee member of the Korea Power Exchange for revising brokerage market rules. He taught corporate law for the attorney training course of the Korean Intellectual Property Office and lectured on general shareholders' meetings and the board of directors for legal personnel under the organization of LAWnB. He also gives legal lectures free of charge for students and the general public under a program by the Ministry of Justice.
Currently, he continues to probe into his interest in the energy production and investment sector, and is expanding his practice into the energy business, which is still an oft-overlooked area domestically.
