Ms. Kyeong (Catherine) KIM is a foreign attorney. Her practice is primarily focused on International Arbitration, Energy & Infrastructure, Cross border transactions, Africa & Middle East, and Global Compliance.
Ms. Kim has represented and advised various Korean and international clients on international arbitration matters under the ICC, KCAB, and CAS rules or ad hoc matters. Recently, since the bankruptcy of a large Korean shipping company, she has advised the company in many related international arbitration matters and has also advised manufacturers, the F&B industry, cosmetic companies, athletes, etc. She also advises clients on pre-arbitration steps such as choosing arbitration institutions or post-arbitration award steps such as recognition and enforcement.
Furthermore, Ms. Kim regularly advises Korean and non-Korean clients on cross-border commercial transactions and any related general corporate matters. In particular, when Korean and non-Korean clients are involved in cross-border projects or major domestic projects, she advises on project related risk management issues.
Since 2016, she set up our firm’s Africa Team along with Mr. Tim Dickens, the head of the Africa Team, and assisted in advising a large Korean company in its sale of shares of a resort in South Africa, a large Korean medical device company in its possible dialysis machine export and set up of operations in Zambia, and a Korean shipping conglomerate in its dispute regarding agency agreements with agents in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast. Currently, she is a Director of Corporate Relations at South African Chamber of Commerce in Korea.
Represented Hanjin Shipping in various disputes regarding priority claims from companies from various countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, Israel, Greece, etc., under the KCAB international rules.
Represented Hanjin Shipping in various international disputes involving foreign courts in countries such as France, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UK, etc.
Represented a Singaporean logistics company against a large Korean construction conglomerate in its arbitration under the KCAB domestic rules.
Represented a Singaporean manufacturer against a Korean company under the KCAB international rules.
Represented a Korean manufacturer against a Taiwanese company under the ICC rules.
Represented a Korean soccer player against FIFA in a doping-related dispute at the CAS.
Represented and advised a European corporation on a project involving the production and installation of pipelines in cooperation with a domestic corporation.
Represented and advised a Korean cosmetic company on contracts related to exports to the United States, Europe, etc.
Advising the Korean Government on the scope of international procurement application on railroad projects in its negotiation with the UK Government regarding the Korea-UK FTA.
