DR & AJU Successfully Hosts National Assembly Legislative Seminar
On May 20, DR & AJU successfully hosted the “Assessment of the 20th National Assembly and the Prospect of the 21st National Assembly” in the seminar room of the National Assembly’s Members’ Office Building, together with the National Assembly Research Service and the Korean Society of Legislation Studies. The event was held on the day of the last plenary session of the 20th National Assembly and the workshop session for newly elected members of the National Assembly. Discussions were focused on reflecting on the achievements and imperfections of the 20th National Assembly and exploring the role and future direction of the 21st National Assembly in the post-COVID era.
Lawmakers and newly elected members from both ruling and opposition parties expressed their thoughts on the 20th National Assembly and expectations for the 21st National Assembly. Experts gave the 20th National Assembly a failing grade and suggested specific improvement measures for the 21st National Assembly to regain public trust. Byeong Seug PARK, a Democratic Party member and most likely candidate for the Speaker of the first half of the 21st National Assembly, attended the seminar during the ongoing discussions, drawing significant attention.
Partner In Jin KIM, head of the corporate finance practice group at DR & AJU, led an in-depth discussion on the topic of “Post COVID-19 Financial Law Reorganization.” Managing Partner Kyu Chul LEE emphasized, “As the number of bills proposed in the National Assembly rapidly increases, it has become ever more important to ensure that the voices of various stakeholders are heard and properly reflected in the legislative process.” He also emphasized DR & AJU’s commitment to ”its role as a bridge between the National Assembly, the government, and the public to realize social values.”
