DR & AJU and The Korea Economic News Sign an MOU for Preventing and Responding to Serious Accidents

On August 30th, DR & AJU and the Korea Economic News signed an MOU for operating a joint certification center for the SAPA Compliance Certification (SCC). The signing was held at the Construction Hall in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul.

The SCC is a comprehensive industrial safety compliance service that inspects companies’ safety and health management systems.

In the first phase, a team composed of DR & AJU lawyers and safety management experts review documents related to safety and health management. This team meticulously inspects approximately 100 inspection criteria related to safety and health obligations, including hazardous risk management, addressing and correcting any deficiencies.

In the second phase, experts from the Korea Industrial Safety Association (KISA), an organization dedicated to industrial safety, visit the site to assess both the workplace risk factors and the level of implementation of safety and health management systems. They will also verify measures to eliminate hazardous and risk factors through on-site inspections.

Based on this thorough inspection process, a certification committee composed of lawyers with over 20 years of experience and industrial safety experts assign certification grades. The grades are renewed and managed through annual inspections. To receive a C grade, a company must meet at least 60% of the evaluation criteria; a B grade requires meeting 70% or more; an A grade requires 80% or more; and an S grade requires 90% or more.

To date, over 120 companies in Korea, including POSCO, Hyosung Group, Hyundai Steel, Dongkuk Steel, and their affiliates, as well as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Incheon Port Authority (IPA), and S-1, have completed SCC certification.
