The purpose of this webinar was to assess the current state of the rapidly evolving SMR industry and explore its implications for Korea as developed countries, such as the U.S., step up their efforts in developing next-generation SMR technologies amid the energy paradigm shift in the era of climate change.
 

DR & AJU’s Foreign Attorney Sin Woo KIM, head of the Nuclear Power, Energy, and Resources Team, introduced the latest advancements in advanced reactors and nuclear power trends in the U.S. He also provided an overview of future electricity generation forecasts, the current status of global SMR development, and U.S. policies, legislation, and regulations related to advanced SMRs.

Emphasizing South Korea’s unparalleled SMR technology, Mr. Kim proposed a two-track strategy that involves simultaneously introducing foreign proprietary technology and fostering domestic R&D activities, and establishing a cooperative framework involving the government, private sector, and industry to advance SMR projects.
