DR & AJU Secures Lump-Sum Child Support Payment In Pro Bono Legal Case for Violation of the Act on Enforcing and Supporting Child Support Payment
DR & AJU has been providing legal advisory services and support to local at-risk youths in the region, after DR & AJU’s Pro Bono Committee Chairperson Yong Hun KIM, former Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of Korea, signed an “MOU on Legal Assistance for At-Risk Youths in the Local Community” with Gangseo-gu Office in Seoul.
In this pro bono case, Ms. Jung, a youth living in Gangseo-gu, did not receive child support from her father for fourteen years after her parents’ divorce. Her financial situation worsened after her mother’s death.
In response, our Pro Bono Committee immediately filed a confinement order against Ms. Jung’s father at the Seoul Family Court and requested administrative measures, such as the disclosure of his name by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Child Support Agency, a departure ban, and the suspension of his driver’s license. In addition, we filed a criminal complaint with the Gangnam Police Station against Ms. Jung’s father for violating the Act on Enforcing and Supporting Child Support Payment.
As a result, we successfully secured a lump-sum payment of KRW 103 million in unpaid child support from Ms. Jung’s father.
